Good health doesn't just happen, we have to work at it. Through a balanced diet, hydration, rest and exercise most of us can remain fairly healthy. In today's society however, we are bombarded with pollutants and stress the like of which humankind has never faced before. Only now are we beginning to understand that the technology we have come to take for granted may be taking a toll on our health. Everything from the thinning of the ozone layer, soil depletion of nutrients, water pollution and the constant bombardment of electromagnetic energy affects our physical well being. This doesn't even take into account our metal or spiritual wellness. Let me say here that I enjoy science and in no way wish to minimize the value of science in today's world. Science, however, is in its infancy and someday it will be able to prove most what we know "intuitively" today.
Until 1879 humans spent most of our time outside, and we followed the natural rhythm of daylight and dark so we received adequate daily doses of natural, full-spectrum sunlight. With the invention of artificial lighting. Many of us spent more time inside and so reducing the time spent in natural full-spectrum light.
Many folks heed the warnings today about the dangers of ultraviolet radiation from the sun, and so they should. What many aren't hearing is that we should try to get exposure to the sun's rays in moderation before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. so that our bodies can remain healthy.
Dr. John Ott studied the effects of different types of lighting on plants and animals in the 50's and 60's his pioneering work consistently demonstrated that life whether plant or animal did not thrive under artificial light conditions that are not full-spectrum. For more on these findings check out "Light Medicine Of the Future" by Jacob Liberman.
